Burnham 208-7 beat Long Sutton 169 by 39 runs

JAMES Annison sealed victory in style with a hat-trick for Burnham as they defeated Long Sutton on Saturday.

Burnham batted first and produced an excellent team effort, as each batsman made it into double figures on a productive day with the willow for the home side.

Pete Harris top-scored with 51, while Jim Bloodworth chipped in with 33 and A. Smith added 26 as the hosts reached 208-7 from their 45 overs.

J. Cook (2-44) impressed with the ball for Long Sutton, whose pursuit of the runs was then dominated by opener Pete Andrews, who struck 93 on a day where none of his teammates passed 18.

Burnham chipped away with regular wickets to leave their opponents on the back foot, with P. Grant taking 3-40 and C. Scriven (1-44), Jake Harding (1-36) and Harris (1-17) each picking up scalps of their own.

Annison then took centre stage, returning to take the key wicket of Andrews before going on to dismiss Sparrow and Herridge with his next two deliveries to end with 3-25 from six overs.

Long Sutton were dismissed for 169 - 39 runs short of their target - as Burnham took 35 points from the victory and now sit fifth having won four and lost four of their opening eight matches.

They are in for a tough test this weekend as they host second-placed Winscombe, though Burnham did win the reverse fixture between the two sides on the first day of the season.

Lympsham & Belvedere 225-7 beat South Petherton 107 by 118 runs

LYMPSHAM and Belvedere consolidated their place in second with a comfortable victory over South Petherton on Saturday, writes Neil Chadwick.

Having lost the toss, the hosts were asked to bat first and were soon in trouble as the accurate J Edmonds removed Samuel McCrea (9) and Dave Luff (5).

Jack Luff and Neil Chadwick looked to rebuild the innings, and batted sensibly until Chadwick fell caught behind on 22 to leave the score at 74-3.

Tom Gooding joined Luff in putting together the crucial partnership as both ran hard and put away the loose ball at will.

Luff looked in fine form, making a hard hitting 93 including 15 fours and two 6s before he was finally bowled by Harris, but Gooding continued the attack on his way to 47 as Lympsham closed on 225-7.

McCrea got an early wicket in reply, clean bowling Lukins in the first over, and later had Reed (10) well caught by Gooding.

The introduction of Jack Luff and Jon Youngs changed the game in Lympsham and Belvedere’s favour as they dried up the runs and forced the batsman to take risks.

Youngs bowled a fine spell of left-arm spin on his way to 3-12 from seven miserly overs, and Luff destroyed the lower order to finish with 4-27.

Chadwick finished the innings off by taking a wicket with his first delivery as South Petherton were all out for 107 on another good day for Lympsham.
