Street 106-3 beat Burnham 104 by 7 wkts

BURNHAM-ON-SEA’S 1st XI remain without a win in the Shrubbery Hotel Somerset League Premier Division after going down by seven wickets against Street on Saturday.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, Burnham’s top order failed to fire as Peter Harris (9), Dave Worthington (4), Rob Driver (0) and Brad House (2) each fell for single figure scores.

A mini-recovery was staged by Lee Coles, who top-scored with 42, and Craig Scriven (18), but only Jim Bloodworth (11) of the rest of the batsmen reached double figures as Street’s Liam Ward (5-29) tore through the tail.

Burnham limped past 100 before the last wicket fell from the first ball of the 31st over with the score on 104.

In reply, Coles (1-12) took his confidence with the bat into his bowling as he claimed the early scalp of Gary Holland (1), but a solid second-wicket stand between Street skipper Rob Hill and wicketkeeper Ben Trotman took the game away from Burnham.

Both batsmen eventually fell, Hill caught by Fred Berry off Peter Harris (1-32) for 44 and Trotman caught by Bloodworth from the bowling of Driver (1-3), but by then the damage was done and Street won by seven wickets after just 15 overs.

This weekend, Burnham go in search of a win at the fourth attempt as they host early table-toppers Wellington.

Somerset League Division 3
Watchet 186-3 beat Lympsham & Belvedere 185-5 by 7 wkts

LYMPSHAM and Belvedere travelled to Watchet and, having lost the toss, were asked to bat first.

Openers Mike Hosey and Dave Luff batted sensibly against the new ball, but the introduction of Dellow had an immediate effect as he bowled Hosey for 11.

Luff (16) followed soon after as he chopped onto a ball that kept low.

Brian Hosey and Tom Gooding reached 64-2 at drinks before Gooding (16) was bowled.

Neil Chadwick joined Hosey and the pair built steadily, putting away the bad ball and rotating the strike.

The pair put on 104 before Hosey (55), having brought up his maiden half-century, was bowled after an innings that included seven fours and one six.

Jon Youngs (12*) and Chadwick (51*) ran well between the wickets as the innings closed on 185-5.

In reply, Watchet made a positive start as the openers attacked from the off.

Gooding (0-25) bowled with good control and deserved more while the introduction of Youngs saw the scoring rate drop.

A fine piece of fielding from Gooding saw Paterson run out at the bowler’s end and Sam Jennings took a fine caught and bowled to remove M. Strong (51) Julian Froud (1-20) had R. Strong well caught by Andy Taylor at extra cover but B. Robinson (71*) led Watchet home with six overs left.

HUNTSPILL & District were well beaten by Ilton in Division 4 of the Shrubbery Hotel Somerset Cricket League on Saturday.

Ilton chose to bat and quickly put the home bowlers under pressure, adding 45 for the opening wicket before Jake Randall had Rich Gower (34) caught by Mark Crawford.

CJ Organ (1-43) and Matt Counsell (1-41) then picked up a wicket apiece to leave the visitors on 91-3, but Rich Jones joined his captain Damian Price and the pair put on 127 for the fourth wicket.

Jones was eventually clean bowled by Thomas Garner (1-31) for 52 and Randall (2-60) returned to dismiss Brett Venn (30) with the final ball of the innings, which Price batted through for 115 not out.

Despite the early loss of Sam Lillycrop, the hosts were always in the hunt as long as Nick Slack remained at the wicket.

The opener led the charge but, once he was dismissed for 74, Huntspill were 132-6 and staring down the barrel.

The end came relatively quickly after that, with Huntspill all out for 162 and beaten by 98 runs.

Wayne Hand struck an excellent 83 to help East Huntspill past Burnham 2nds in Division 6N.

Captain Ian Cooke added 23 as the visitors made 193-7 from their 40 overs, with Ollie Farnham (2-22) and Sam Lewis (2-28) not giving much away for Burnham.

Several batsmen made starts in reply but none of them played the match-winning knock as Burnham were bowled out for 151, Andrew Chedzey taking 3-31 to hand East Huntspill victory by 42 runs.

Wedmore’s bowlers were on fire against Temple Cloud 2nds, skittling their visitors for just 48.

Bob Burgess (2-3 from eight), Chris Major (2-4 from four) and Ian Harris (2-2 from two) were particularly impressive, and Billy Halford’s 33 helped the hosts home by eight wickets.

Huntspill & District 2nds won a Division 7N thriller by two runs at Harptree Villages.

Craig Lefevre’s 81 was the top score in Huntspill’s 176-5, which they defended as Louis Wright (3-25) took three quick wickets at the death. Will Davies took 3-27.

Mark beat Lympsham & Belvedere 2nds by 16 runs.

N. Ollerenshaw (60) and T. Lewis (58) helped Mark to 241-6, which proved beyond Lympsham despite useful contributions from Rich Ford (44), Felix Grandfield (34) and Sam Neate (33).

T. Moxey took 4-34 with the ball for Mark.
