CRICKET: Burnham-on-Sea beaten again at Premier Division foes Taunton Deane

BURNHAM-ON-SEA went down by five wickets at Taunton Deane 2nds on Saturday.

Burnham’s innings got off to a poor start as openers Peter Harris (0) and Dave Worthington (2) fell early, but Brad House and Lee Coles led a recovery.

House struck five fours in his 35 before becoming the first of five victims for Tom Burgess.

Coles’ departure for 32 left Burnham 85-5, which then became 92-7 as Burgess completed his devastating spell of 5-27 from nine overs before Burnham were bowled out for 114.

Burnham couldn’t have wished for a better start with the ball as Paul Grant removed Dave Jones for a duck with just the second ball of the innings.

Sam Lewis claimed 3-32 but it was another Burgess, Sam, who played the key knock as he plundered an unbeaten 36 from 20 deliveries to see his side home.

This Saturday, Burnham travel to Middlezoy.

Lympsham & Belvedere 202-3 beat Chard 2nds 198 by 7 wkts

LYMPSHAM & Belvedere 1st XI returned to winnings ways at home to Chard with a comprehensive seven-wicket victory.

Chard elected to bat first and made a steady start, reaching 34 before Brendon Summers (1-20) bowled Kalloway for 12 as reward for an excellent opening spell.

At the other end Tom Gooding (2-30) troubled the batsmen and he was rewarded with two quick wickets to see Chard slip to 46-3.

Further wickets for Tom Ferns (2-37) and Jon Youngs (1-31) saw Chard slump to 88-6, however Cleal and the aggressive Sochon (19) added 40 for the seventh wicket until Mike Hosey came into the attack and bowled Sochon.

At 148-8 it looked like Chard would post a score well below par until Cleal (77) and Shazhad (19) added a quickfire 50 partnership for the ninth wicket until Hosey (4-13) dismissed both to see Chard dismissed for 198.

The home side got off to a poor start with Hosey dismissed without scoring, however Dave Luff and Neil Chadwick batted positively, adding 67 before Chadwick (35) clipped to mid-off.

Luff was joined by Gooding and they reduced the arrears in a 102-run stand as both reached half-centuries.

Luff (63) was dismissed with 23 needed for victory and Nathan Hancock (16*) joined Gooding (52*) to see their team home with four overs remaining.

Lympsham visit Huish & Langport on Saturday.

SOLID contributions from the Huntspill & District middle order helped them to a 72-run victory at Crewkerne in Division 4 of the Shrubbery Hotel Somerset League.

A slow start saw Huntspill lose their top three for single figure scores, but Jake Randall (55) rebuilt with Matt Cavill (40).

Shaun Lismore contributed 57 towards the end of the innings as Huntspill were bowled out for 222, with the majority of the wickets falling to Robert Keylock (5-47) and Fraser Wallace (4-35).

In reply, Sam Lillicrop (3-29) removed both openers and Shaun Lismore (3-35) was also among the wickets as Huntspill dismissed their hosts for 150.

Burnham-on-Sea 2nds were thumped by nine wickets at home by Churchill in Division 6N.

Only three batsmen - Ben Adams (13), Jack Morgan (20) and Josh Batt (18) - made it into double figures as Burnham were skittled for 71.

Brett Diver (1-19) made an early breakthrough in reply but Churchill coasted home inside 12 overs as Burnham remain winless.

Wedmore defeated Cheddar 2nds by seven wickets after an accomplished performance with bat and ball.

Josh Burgess (2-19), Chris Major (2-24) and Ian Harris (3-32) shared the wickets as Cheddar were restricted to 120-8.

Billy Halford then led the way with the bat, striking 59 as Wembdon reached 121-4 after 24 overs.

East Huntspill lost 30 points as they conceded their match at Temple Cloud 2nds.

Huntspill & District 2nds edged past Mark by two wickets in a high-scoring Division 7N encounter.

Nick Ollerenshaw struck a fine unbeaten 112 for Mark, with captain James Chinnock adding 72 not out as Mark finished their 40 overs on 239-2.

It didn’t prove to be enough, however, as Ryan Edwards made 71 for Huntspill and Nick Jones scored 47 to keep the chase on track.

Helped by 41 Extras, Huntspill crossed the line eight wickets down with an over to spare.

Lympsham & Belvedere also enjoyed a tight eight-wicket win, with Uphill Castle 3rds the opponents.

Uphill concluded their 40 overs on 179-3, Sam Jennings taking 2-15, before Kevin Crockett’s 59 got the response off to a strong start.

Andrew Hall (36) picked up the reins before Jennings made an unbeaten 11 to see his side to victory with just three balls to spare.
