THE Avenue Tennis Club A and C teams competed in their sixth of ten North Somerset Tennis League matches on Monday, June 18, while most of the nation were watching England take on Tunisia in the World Cup.

The match format sees a team of four players, playing doubles as an A & B pair against each other in the best of three sets per rubber.

The Avenue A team were beaten by a very strong and competent Congresbury team, who arrived sat top of the league and stayed there with their 10-0 win.

Both Congresbury teams were just too strong and clinical, finishing off points when they had the chance and making Avenue play one more shot when they were put under pressure.

Results: Avenue A (Marcus Buncombe and Zach Stitch) - lost to A team 2-6, 0-6; lost to B team 0-6, 1-6; Avenue B (Vinny Duddy and Sam Stead) - lost to B team 2-6, 3-6; lost to A team 6-7, 3-6

Avenue C beat Weston C 9-2 on the evening, losing one of the rubbers.
