CRICKET: Huntspill and District beat Kilmington and Stourton in Shrubbery Hotel Somerset League

HUNTSPILL & District reached the halfway stage of the season in a comfortable mid-table position after winning at Kilmington & Stourton on Saturday.

Huntspill won the toss and batted first, with Nick Slack (34) and Sam Lillycrop (17) getting the innings off to a solid start.

Both fell to Ben Standfield (3-44), but Thomas Garner (40) picked up from where his teammates had left off and laid the foundations for a solid score.

Matt Counsell injected some momentum lower down the order, striking 39 from number seven before the visitors were bowled out for 193 in the 44th over, with Spencer Churchill taking 4-26 for the hosts.

CJ Organ was straight into his stride as Huntspill set about defending their total, dismissing both openers on his way to figures of 2-21 from six overs.

Shaun Lismore (2-30) and Counsell (3-35) tore through the middle order but number three Will Batty-Smith remained in good touch as he passed his half-century and found support from tail-ender Jason Lapham.

Sam Lillycrop (1-44) returned to make the breakthrough, having Lapham caught and bowled for 27 before running out last man Churchill to seal victory by 51 runs - Batty-Smith was left stranded on 70 not out.

On Saturday, Huntspill travel to struggling Wellington 2nds.

LYMPSHAM & Belvedere put up a good fight against unbeaten Division 3 leaders Trull before going down by five wickets.

Electing to bat, L&B made the worst possible start losing Dave Luff in the first over without scoring.

Skipper Mike Hosey and Neil Chadwick rebuilt, adding 77 for the second wicket until Hosey was bowled by Gibbs for 38 in the 17th over.

The loss of three quick wickets including Chadwick for 25 saw the home side slip to 96-5 but Sam Mccrea (43) and 'Lympsham Concrete man of the match' Ben Laing (46*) added 72 priceless runs for the sixth wicket to help their side to 209-9 off their 45 overs.

Brendon Summers struck in the 2nd over having Bishop caught behind by Sam Neate to see the visitors slip to 4-1.

However, Sapey (31) and Blundell (83) put on 123 for the second wicket with ease until both fell to Nilanjan Chatterjee.

Further wickets to Chatterjee (3-49) and Laing saw Trull wobble at 167-5, but Stone (38*) and Fitt (17*) eased their side home with 10 overs to spare.

Wedmore remain in the Division 6N promotion places after a comfortable 72-run victory over Churchill.

Captain Billy Halford (46) got the Wedmore innings off to a good start, and Dan Luedicke (41) and Ben Evans (34) kept up the momentum as they posted 170.

Josh Burgess (3-10), Bob Burgess (2-22) and Luedicke (2-22) ensured that total was more than enough as they rolled out Churchill for 98.

A fine knock from Pat Hancock was not quite enough for East Huntspill as they were edged out by two wickets at home to Cheddar 2nds.

Hancock’s unbeaten 92 proved the cornerstone of East Huntspill’s 182 all out, but Ben Peverall’s 59 not out and 41 extras helped Cheddar to victory.

Burnham-on-Sea 2nds were beaten by nine wickets at home to Temple Cloud 2nds.

Andy Ashfold’s patient 78 not out helped Burnham to 194-3, but Alex Comer struck an unbeaten 99 to lead his side home with ease.

Kevin Crockett (53), Felix Grandfield (57) and Callum Neate (59*) each made half-centuries as Lympsham & Belvedere 2nds made 222-4, but Butleigh 2nds emerged victorious by six wickets in Division 7N.

In Division 8N, Wedmore 2nds were beaten by nine wickets at Wells 2nds.

Alex Charalambous top scored with 33 for Wedmore but Wells chased down 141 in just over 17 overs.
