THE Avenue Tennis Club is hosting the Burnham-on-Sea Centenary Open Tournament, which is a LTA Grade 3 tournament for juniors and adults.

The tournament started on Sunday, August 12 and will finish tomorrow (Saturday, August 18), with the finals of the majority of the events taking place throughout tomorrow's finals day.

The tournament attracts some of the top players in both the county and country competing to earn LTA ranking, rating points and prizes.

The guest of honour at the competition is Betty Norman, who triumphed at Wimbledon 30 years ago.

Burnham and Highbridge Weekly News:

This year they chose the sunny shores of Burnham-on-Sea for their annual tour, training camp and summer tennis holiday.

The group are staying in Cossington for the week and plan to play tennis every day, weather and play schedule permitting.

Avenue's Vinny Duddy said that there is some fantastic tennis to watch, and with hot and cold food served throughout the day it makes it an ideal day out with the kids during the school holiday.

Entry, to watch, is free.

A special centenary Hog Roast will be available on tonight (Friday) – all are invited to attend; the cost is £10 per head.
