BURNHAM United’s 1st XI were without a match last Saturday, but the Reserves were in action, at home to Tunley Athletic in Division 3 of the Somerset County League.

There was only one goal in the game and it went to the visitors, Tom Young’s strike condemning Burnham to a 1-0 defeat.

In the Weston-super-Mare & District League, Burnham United A remain rooted to the bottom of Division 3 after a 6-2 loss at home to West Wick on Saturday.

Declan Christie and substitute Jaden Watts scored in vain for the hosts.

In Division 4, United’s B team were no match for local rivals Huntspill Crowns, who won 4-0.

Crowns’ goals came from Adam Lock, Andrew Mockridge (2) and Brynn Pearce, and they are now fourth in the standings; Burnham B sit in eighth spot.

The same division saw Wedmore Reserves lose, for the second week in succession, to Weston Town – and for a second week in succession it was by a 14-1 scoreline!

That result sees them slip below Huntspill Crowns in the standings, into fifth place.

As for Wedmore’s first team, they suffered a 2-0 loss away to KVFC in Division 1 – Ben Stanley and Louie Hallett getting the goals for the home side.

Burnham United Ladies suffered their first defeat of the season on Sunday, away to high-flying Purnell Sports in Division 1 of the Somerset County Women’s League.

Vanessa Brill notched for Burnham, but strikes from Kirsty Sheppard, Alix Tucker and Eleri Webber ensured the hosts collected all three points.

Division 2 side Isle of Wedmore Ladies also suffered their first defeat, 3-1 at home to Purnell Reserves, despite Alice Haggan’s goal.


IN last weekend’s Uxella Bridgwater & District Sunday League action, Ramblers kept themselves at the Division 1 summit with a 4-2 win at Spaxton Rangers this weekend.

West Bower remain three points behind the leaders, with a game in hand, after smashing hosts Highburn Athletic 8-2.

Third-placed Huntspill Crowns drew 2-2 at Rhode Lane Wanderers, who had Jake Adey and Marc Richards on target.

Wayne Hand and Tyresse Stewart netted for Crowns.

Red Road Rangers were 3-1 winners over Spaxton Stags.

In Division 2, Puriton and Pawlett Rebels, scrapping for third spot, could not be separated, as they drew 2-2.
