BURNHAM United ended their run of five consecutive defeats by coming from behind to draw 1-1 with Somerset County League Division 1 leaders Saltford on Saturday.

Warren Whitfield netted for the hosts at Cassis Close; the result keeps them above second-bottom Wells City Reserves, who also picked up a point, drawing 3-3 with Hengrove Athletic Reserves.

Burnham United Reserves, by contrast, slipped out of the top half in Division 3, after a 4-0 defeat at Winscombe Reserves.

Winscombe moved up to third with their big win, Burnham falling to ninth – now five points off the top six.

In the Weston-super-Mare & District League, Burnham United A found their goalscoring touch to put five past Banwell A, without reply, in the Bob Keyes Cup.

Jamie Howson scored two, with the other goals coming from Wayne Barrett, Oliver Taylor and Josh Watkins.

Wedmore had a rather less successful cup tie, losing 5-2 away to Locking Park in the Hospital Cup for Division 1 teams.

Steven Alden put away two goals in vain for Wedmore.

Wedmore Reserves also lost, 2-1 at home to Hutton A, in Division 4.

Alex Murry netted for the hosts, but two goals from Tyler Frost earned his side the points.

In the same division, Huntspill Crowns romped to a 4-1 victory away to Weston Celtic.

Brynn Pearce hit two, with Ryan Jeffries and Andrew Mockridge were also on the scoresheet for the victorious Crowns.

Those results leave Crowns third in Division 4, with a game in hand on leaders Axbridge Town (who are four points ahead), while Wedmore Reserves lie fifth, six points behind having played two more games.

There were just two matches in the Uxella Bridgwater & District Sunday League this weekend, and both were big home wins.

Huntspill Crowns BPH crashed to an 8-1 loss at Victoria Gate Albion in Division 2, with Crowns’ Chris Rex scoring and being sent off.

Ben Evett bagged a hat-trick, Chris Mckee two more, and Ronnie Robilliard and Sean Jolly completed the scoring for the hosts.

In the Bill Brown Cup, Ramblers decimated Highburn Athletic 18-1 to move into the semi-finals of the competition.
