Middlezoy Rovers Reserves 4, Cutters Friday 0

ON a very wet and very windy afternoon at the Aerodrome, Middlezoy Rovers Reserves hosted bottom of the table Cutters Friday.

The hosts knew from the first whistle they were in for a difficult afternoon, as Cutters came flying out the blocks, playing some neat football in the early stages and forcing Scott Rich into a couple of decent saves.

Zoy eventually got into the game in the 20th minute, when Scott Capel’s brilliant diagonal ball put Steve Hall in behind the defence to run 20 yards and square the ball into the path of Craig Wright to tap in to an empty net.

The visitors responded well for the next five minutes, but were 2-0 down soon after as Capel’s shot from 25 yards was well saved by the keeper, but the alert Wright calmly slotted the ball home.

Five minutes into the second half, Dan Male’s through ball for Josh Lewis was weighted perfectly, and after the ball came back to Lewis off the keeper, he put the ball back across goal for Wright to get his hat-trick from two yards out.

Substitute Danny Lismore put the game to bed 10 minutes after coming on, with a neat finish after some good build-up play.

Zoy held out for the last half hour in treacherous conditions for a 4-0 win.

Third-placed Zoy entertain Cheddar Reserves, who sit second, this Saturday (ko 2pm), hoping to avenge their defeat from a few weeks ago.

MIDDLEZOY’S first team played 65 goalless minutes away to Premier Division rivals Watchet Town on Saturday, only for the match to be abandoned due to the amount of standing water on the pitch.

The match has been rescheduled for Saturday, December 29; this coming Saturday Zoy head to Ilminster Town (ko 2pm).

Middlezoy Rovers Ladies had been due to face Ilminster Town Ladies in their final match of 2018 on Sunday, but the game was postponed due to waterlogged pitch.

Zoy Ladies return to action on January 6, away to Keynsham Town Development.

This Saturday sees Bridgwater on the road again, away to fourth-placed Keynsham Town Reserves (ko 2pm).
