Friendly match
Nailsea 3, Burnham-on-Sea 2
DESPITE another loss, Burnham put in a good display in Saturday's friendly, their first game back after the festive period.
Understrength again with only 10 players, you would not have known it, as the whole team played out of their skin.
In an even game, both teams could have won it and it was played in a good spirit.
Burnham took the lead from a short corner, as Tracey Dunn and Kerry Harvey both saw shots blocked, only for Sarah Johnson to tap in from right on the goal-line.
The Blues could have increased that lead but Caroline Hunt and Harvey saw efforts saved or go narrowly wide, before they then conceded two soft goals before half time.
Nicky Glanville made several reaction saves, and Emma Ballard improvised by swatting away a couple of high goalbound attempts.
Ellie Bishop and Becky Evans were magnificent in midfield, and Evans went on to play a big part in Burnham’s equaliser.
Having received the ball from Carly Bush out of defence, she ran at least half the pitch before passing to Hunt, who showed great persistence to force the ball over the line.
The match see-sawed back and forth, the Blues sticking to their task despite being a player light.
Liv Hunt, Evans and Bush all created half-chances, but tiredness told in the end and a breakaway goal finally broke the visitors' resolve as they lost out 3-2.
Burnham return to league action this Saturday (10am start), at home to ECVH.
Training continues on Mondays from 7-9pm at KAS.
