Burnham-on-Sea 68, Bristol Harlequins 0

BURNHAM continued their good form with a thumping win over struggling Bristol Harlequins on Saturday.

Two early tries from winger Ryan Beard set the tone and the Stags continued to impress out wide as Jude Donnelly then went over.

Tom Wall scored twice before the break as half-time arrived with Burnham 33-0 to the good.

The second half started quietly but it wasn’t long before the hosts were back into the groove as Chris Warner and a penalty try made it 47-0.

Stefan Pierce touched down before Wall completed his hat-trick to put the shine on a man of the match display.

A late try made the final score 68-0 - Tim Piper converted seven of the tries in an impressive afternoon with the boot.

Captain Ross McKechan said: “The scoreline makes it look a thrashing - and I suppose it was - but we never got out of third gear.

“We made errors we wouldn’t normally make and were brought down to their level a bit.

“That said, we scored some great breakaway tries in the first half and were very good in the forwards in the second half.”

On Saturday, third-placed Burnham travel to mid-table Old Redcliffians 2nds.

“We beat them earlier in the season but it was a tight game, so we are expecting a tough challenge,” McKechan said.

A supporters coach is running for the South West Counties Vase final away to Honiton on February 23 at a cost of £10 per fan.
