BURNHAM-ON-SEA are looking to take another step towards Twickenham this weekend as they travel to Honiton in the South West Counties area final of the RFU Senior Vase.

Burnham go into the match in good form, having beaten Cheltenham Saracens in the area semi-final three weeks ago before consecutive Somerset Premier wins which have seen them rise to second in the table.

Burnham won 22-10 at Old Redcliffians 2nds on Saturday but captain Ross McKechan is demanding improvement from his side in their big match this weekend against a side currently sat third in the Cornwall/Devon league.

McKechan said: “It was a tough game on Saturday.

“We started well and got an early try but we allowed Old Reds back into the game.

“We didn’t quite click and couldn’t get things going properly, which was frustrating.

“However, we kept them at bay and we were able to grind out the result.

“The scrum and lineout was solid and Ryan Beard scored two really good tries.

“It was by no means our best performance but we were glad to come away with the win and four points.

“We know we have to be better against Honiton and we are looking forward to it.

“It’s the biggest game the club has had for a while and we are all excited to get stuck into it.”

A supporters’ coach is leaving the BASC Ground at 11am (costing £10), with kick-off in east Devon at 2.30pm.
