Dawn Prior Memorial Trophy

Ash Rangers Ladies 7, Burnham United Ladies 2

BURNHAM United Ladies played what turned out to be their final match of the season on Sunday as they lost to Ash Rangers in the Dawn Prior Memorial Trophy.

Mollie Harvey and Lucy Stacey found the net for Burnham but the hosts proved too strong at Taunton’s Blackbrook Pavilion.

Harriet Kelly’s hat-trick led the way for Ash, with Hannah Forse (2), Rhi Butterworth and Laura Currie also on target.

The defeat brings United Ladies’ inaugural campaign to a close and the players and coaches can be proud of their efforts.

Burnham won six of their 18 league matches, drawing four, and currently sit sixth.

They could drop to seventh if Ilminster Town Reserves overhaul them in their games in hand.

United took to social media to write: “The league season and cup run comes to end but the team have much to be proud of this season.

“There are lots of positives and a great addition to the whole club.”

Division 3

Somerton Town 2, Burnham United 3

BURNHAM United moved further clear of danger in Division 1 of the Somerset County League after twice coming from behind to win at Somerton Town.

The Seasiders were on a three-match unbeaten run going into the match but fell behind at their mid-table hosts, only for Joe Selway to equalise.

Curtis Bradshaw was next to level it up after Burnham had fallen behind for a second time, and suddenly it was anyone’s game.

It was United who went on to claim the three points as substitute Warren Whitfield made the key intervention from the bench, finding the net, keeping Burnham’s good form going and ensuring they now sit nine points clear of the bottom two.

They have a chance to continue their good run on Saturday at home to seventh-placed Timsbury Athletic at Cassis Close (3pm).
