SOMERSET Women finished strongly to claim T20 Division 2 title glory on Sunday.

Somerset needed to win both of their final two matches, and hope that league leaders Durham lost both of theirs.

And captain Sophie Luff’s side kept up their end of the bargain, beating Worcestershire by five runs and Derbyshire by eight wickets.

Somerset posted 131-6 against Worcestershire, Luff leading the way with 48no and Nicole Richards adding 25, before Lauren Filer (2-15), Niamh Holland (2-15) and Lorraine Szczepanski (2-30) limited their opponents to 126-6.

Richards (3-15), Szczepanski (3-19) and Holland (2-15) restricted Derbyshire to 106-8, then Luff hit 49no and Richards 25 in Somerset’s 108-2.

Durham had a nightmare Sunday, losing to Scotland and then Yorkshire, which meant that Somerset could celebrate claiming the Division 2 title for 2019.
