Ilminster 2nds 174-4 beat Burnham-on-Sea 171 by 6 wkts
BURNHAM-ON-SEA slipped into the Division 2 relegation zone after losing out by six wickets at home to Ilminster 2nd XI on Saturday.
The hosts elected to bat first but lost both openers, Peter Harris (6) and Brad House (1), pretty cheaply.
Dave Worthington (0) was Josh House’s (2-21) second victim, but Rob Driver looked to rebuild from No 3.
He amassed 63, with support from Lee Coles (13), Jim Bloodworth (15) and Connor Lefrere (32no), but eventually fell to Paul Oliver.
Oliver finished with 4-41 off nine overs, as Burnham stumbled to 171 all out (from 44 overs) – boosted by 30 Extras.
The run chase was not entirely routine for Ilminster, who lost Chris Warry for 10 and Tim Towill for 11, to give the home side some more hope.
But Andrew Robinson (33) and Ian Masters (22) steadied the ship, leaving Oliver (53no) and Josh House (27no) to take their side to victory in 30.4 overs.
Four Burnham bowlers took a wicket – Lefrere finishing with 1-27 off eight, Ollie Farnham 1-62 off nine, Driver 1-32 off seven and Harris 1-26 off four.
Cheddar’s win over Bridgwater 3rds saw them leapfrog Burnham, who are now second from bottom in the table.
Burnham host Cheddar this coming Saturday for what looks to be a pivotal match in the race for survival.
