Burnham-on-Sea 255-4 beat Cheddar 202 by 53 runs
A MATCH-WINNING stand between Bradley House and Rob Driver brought Burnham a vital victory over fellow strugglers Cheddar on Saturday.
Burnham went into the match second from bottom, 13 points behind Cheddar, and skipper Driver chose to bat first.
Dave Worthington went early but this brought together House and Driver.
They dominated the bowling with House the first to go, run out two short of his century.
Driver (78no) carried on the good work with Lee Coles (26no), taking Burnham to 255-4 at the close.
Connor Lefrere soon had Cheddar’s batsmen under pressure, dismissing the top two, but Josh Horler (42) and Tom Stevens (36) began to rebuild until Pete Harris trapped Horler lbw.
Joel Butcher and Stevens hit back, but Harris accounted for Stevens, stumped by Fred Berry.
Then the introduction of Nathan Giblett and Driver swung the match back Burnham’s way; Butcher went on to reach a half-century, but Giblett (3-43) and Driver (2-20) saw the chase peter out.
The result saw Burnham overtake Cheddar in the table; this Saturday brings another must-win match, at bottom club Purnell.
