SCB Minor Cup semi-final
Huntspill & District 125-2 beat Horrington 124-7 by 8 wkts

HUNTSPILL have reached the SCB Minor Cup final for the first time since 1991, booking a place at the Cooper Associates County Ground after beating Horrington on Sunday.

Having been asked to field, Huntspill started well and CJ Organ (2-18) had the dangerous Andrew Mortimer (10) caught behind by Nick Slack.

Dean Adams (2-29) then removed Mike Fear (17) and Nick Mortimer (0) but Jason De Lange (51) and Tom Wood (18) added 60 in nine overs before Matt Counsell bowled Wood.

Sam Lillycrop struck twice in his final over to finish with 2-9 while De Lange reached a brilliant 50 but was then bowled by Organ.

Chasing 125, Steve Eley struck a boundary with his first ball but was then caught, so Jake Randall joined Slack and the pair added 25 in five overs.

The pair took 18 off De Lange’s first over to get the innings going but Slack, the main aggressor, was bowled for 46 from the final ball of Andrew Mortimer’s spell.

Randall picked up his scoring, going to his 50 with a six then a four to take Huntspill within 10 runs of victory.

Matt Osmant (8no) finished the job to set up a final against Bishop’s Hull on August 4.

Monmouth Scientific Somerset League
Division 4
Huntspill & District 221 beat Ilton 81 by 140 runs

HUNTSPILL recorded a big victory over Ilton thanks to a superb bowling and fielding display on Saturday.

After winning the toss Huntspill decided to bat first, but lost Nick Slack (8) early on.

Steve Eley joined Sam Lillycrop and dominated their stand of 60 before being caught for 43, Lillycrop quickly following for 11.

Jake Randall and Thomas Garner (50) started the rebuilding job, with the latter scoring more freely; but when Shaun Lismore (25) joined Randall (53), the pair lifted the run rate by picking up singles at ease and punishing the bad ball.

Lismore’s departure sparked a collapse, as Scott Welch (4-48) and Nick Matravers (3-44) saw that Huntspill lost their last five wickets for 11 runs.

A big performance was needed with the ball and CJ Organ and Randall had Ilton under pressure from the outset.

The first wicket fell in comical style as Mark Casley (25) chipped a simple catch to Eley, who somehow dropped it, only to reedem himself as he realised both batsmen were at the bowlers’ end and he had Andrew Haste (9) run out.

Randall then had Rich Gower (11) caught and bowled, and when Lismore (3-9 off nine) removed Steve Price and Damian Ash in the space of three balls to put Ilton in deep trouble.

Lillycrop (3-22 off five) ran through the middle order, before another run out and a wicket for Matt Counsell wrapped up the game for Huntspill.

LYMPSHAM & Belvedere’s pursuit of the Somerset League Division 3 title stayed right on track with a four-wicket win at home to Wembdon 2nds on Saturday.

The visitors opted to bat first, and Daniel James-Stone’s 65 fired them to 237-9 from their 45 overs, with Phil Curd adding 32 and 52 Extras topping up their total

Tom Gooding claimed 3-42 for Lympsham, who also had Sam McCrea (2-48) and George Nuttycombe (2-21) chipping in to hamper their opponents.

The home side’s reply was build on the efforts of openers Mike Hosey (40) and Dave Luff (68), and with Jack Luff striking 55 and Neil Chadwick 44no, they got over the line in the penultimate over, keeping themselves clear at the top of the table.

Wedmore’s Division 5 title hopes were dented by a defeat at home to Taunton Deane 3rds, who have leapfrogged them into third spot.

The hosts restricted the Deane to 127-9 – Ryan Marsh top scoring with 33 – as Ian Harris took 3-20 and Sam Blackburn 3-32 for their side.

But despite Martyn Boley’s 54, Wedmore were dismissed for 111 to lose by 16 runs, as Sam Burgess, Jesse Mooney and Ben Osborne collected two wickets apiece to inspire the visitors to victory, having been up against it in a low-scoring affair.

Lympsham & Belvedere 2nds are emulating the club’s 1st XI by sitting in top spot in Division 7 North.

They were six-wicket winners at Burnham-on-Sea 2nds on Saturday, after limiting their hosts to 146-6 from their allocated 40 overs.

Andy Ashfold made 52 and Jack Morgan 34 for Burnham, while Kevin Crockett claimed 2-23, Jack Neville 2-26 and Brendon Summers 2-30 for the visitors.

Burnham bowler Rory Burne (3-31) caused problems in the reply, but Jon Lodge’s 55 and 33no from Callum Neate saw the league leaders home in just 24.4 overs.

Huntspill & District 2nds are Lympsham’s closest challengers, and they have a game in hand having not had a scheduled fixture last weekend.

Wedmore 2nds were also without a fixture in Division 8 North.

Mark were supposed to have a match, but visitors Weston-super-Mare 5ths were unable to raise a side, so Mark picked up the 35 points without a ball being bowled.
