Monmouth Scientific Somerset League
Division 2
Burnham-on-Sea 276-9 beat Frome 2nds 190-8 by 86 runs

A SCINTILLATING, unbeaten 160 by Brad House was the highlight of Burnham’s 86-run win on Saturday.

Mathematically, Burnham could still stay up and their recent form belies an otherwise dismal season.

Put in to bat by Frome 2nds, House and skipper Rob Driver laid into the visiting attack, putting on 211 for the first wicket.

However, there were echoes of Burnham’s streaky batting past as the innings fell away, despite House battering on at the other end.

Only Matt Dibble (18) added a double figure score as Arthur Harman (3-64) gained some revenge for his earlier mauling.

In essence, Burnham lost ten wickets for 65 runs as Ethan Cox weighed in with three wickets.

On the brilliant side, House’s 160 included 11 fours and nine sixes.

When Frome replied, Connor Lefrere (0-19 off 6) and Driver (0-29 off 9) kept it tight and, as the visitors attempted to accelerate, Tom McCollum was waiting with 4-24 to snap up the middle order.

Andy Birkett added 3-39 and Frome finished short.

Burnham travel to Ilminster 2nds on Saturday for their final league fixture.

LYMPSHAM & Belvedere 1st XI’s race to the Division 3 title faltered when they lost to North Perrott 2nds by just three runs on Saturday.

Electing to bat, Perrott’s top six all made contributions, Lewis Hunt (48no) top-scoring. Jack Neville bowled well to take 2-30.

Lymspham’s replied centred around a sparkling century from Jack Luff, whose 112 included 13 fours and six sixes.

However, he received little support as the Hunt dismissed the tail during a 4-36 spell and Lympsham were all out for 192.

Lympsham are now just eight points ahead of Weston 2nds going into the final match at Chard 2nds.

In Division 4, Huntspill and District go into their final match equal on points at the top.

On Saturday, they travelled to Huish & Langport and won by 53 to set up a thrilling last day of the season.

Huntspill decided to bat and posted 193, thanks to 59 from Jake Randall and a vital 34 from CJ Organ.

When Huish replied, Organ took two top order wickets and Sam Lillycrop, Shaun Lismore, Matt Counsell and Jake Randall also added two apiece.

Wedmore kept their noses in front in Division 5 with the demolition of Street 2nds. Electing to bat first, Street were all out for 35 as Ian Harris took figures of 6-8 off 3.5 overs.

Bob Burgess (2-8) and Josh Burgess (2-3) completed the rout.

It was done and dusted in the fifth over as Wedmore added 35 points, to remain six points ahead of Taunton Deane 3rds.

Wedmore travel to Trull 2nds on Saturday for their final match.
