West Clubs Women’s League
Brunel Division 1
Weston-super-Mare 2nds 0, Burnham-on-Sea 7

AFTER the disappointment of last week’s defeat, Burnham responded positively with an impressive performance against a young Weston team.

They dominated possession from the start but were denied by some inspired goalkeeping, until Amy Edmundson finally broke the deadlock with a powerful strike from a penalty corner.

Kerry Harvey doubled that lead moments later after really good work down the left from Olivia Hunt, then Edmundson made it 3-0 at half-time with a smart shot on the turn after she had her back to goal.

Edmundson turned provider at the start of the second half as her long diagonal cross-field pass found Hattie Rogers, whose shot hit the post and Harvey pounced to score the rebound.

Edmundson then completed her hat-trick with a neat finish after a storming run into the D by Emma Fellows.

Louise Peace showed great energy and movement down the right with her passing and crossing and even had time to make a recovery run back into her own D to make an important interception, that kept Burnham’s clean sheet intact.

Sarah Johnson’s pinpoint passing set up Edmundson to net from a seemingly impossible angle, but the last goal was all about Edmundson, as she picked up a loose ball in the final third, drove forward into the D and cracked in an unstoppable shot to wrap up the points for Burnham.

Player of the match: Amy Edmundson

Burnham’s next match is home to Firebrands this Saturday, October 12 (10am), at Worle School (as the King Alfred School pitch is being repaired), although training continues at KAS on Mondays (7-8.30pm).
