LEWIS Gregory blasted 29no off 11 balls on his first senior appearance for England, but it was not enough to save the tourists from an eight-wicket defeat to a New Zealand XI in their second warm-up match.

England elected to bat first in Lincoln, but Gregory's Somerset team-mate Tom Banton (6) fell early on, caught by Josh Clarkson off the bowling of Anurag Verma.

James Vince (46), Joe Denly (39no) and Gregory took their side to 188-5, the Somerset all-rounder hitting two sixes and two fours in his cameo, while Verma claimed 3-46.

That score never looked like being enough once Colin Munro got going, the opener smashing 107no off 57 balls (seven sixes, nine fours).

Anaru Kitchen added 48no as New Zealand won by eight wickets with nine balls to spare.

Gregory (0-27 off two overs) and Denly (0-30 off two) returned particularly expensive bowling figures for England.

England's five-match T20 series against New Zealand starts on Friday, and runs until November 10.
