Uhlsport Somerset County League Division 1

Wells City Res 1, Burnham Utd 2

Burnham finished the year with an impressive win at Wells City Reserves, leaving the Seasiders joint second in the league table.

In a competitive and entertaining game, Burnham started well but the first chance fell to Wells City which Fraser McDiarmid pushed around the post.

The Wells keeper was soon in action, saving efforts from Charlie Harding and Joe Selway, before McDiarmid saved well again when City were presented with a one-on-one chance.

The outcome of the match was decided in an eight-minute spell after the break.

United broke the deadlock when debutant Cameron Birch’s deflected shot fell to Curtis Bradshaw, who slotted home to give the Seasiders the lead in the 67th minute.

The lead lasted just two minutes as a long-range effort beat McDiarmid.

Wells were then awarded penalty on 72 minutes but the shot was fired over the bar.

Burnham made them pay just three minutes later as Harry Ratcliffe’s corner found Harry Penfold, who headed in the winner at the far post.

Birch nearly extended the lead with an effort which went just over the bar but United held on for all three points.

Burnham Utd Res 4, Somerton Town Res 2

Burnham Reserves ended 2019 with a 4-2 victory to continue their winning streak in to the new year.

Burnham started the game well and found themselves 2-0 up in the first five minutes of the game, Harrison Givens netting both goals from two well-worked moves.

Somerton worked themselves back in to the game and soon pulled one back.

The Seasiders upped the pace and were rewarded when Benny Windram ran down the right and found Ed Lamb, who slid in to make it 3-1 just before half time.

Burnham carried on controlling the game at the start of the second half, however it was Somerton who got themselves back into the game with a good finish.

Burnham finished the scoring with 10 minutes to go as a clearance fell to Ed Lamb, who hit a 25 yard rocket into the top corner to give the home side a 4-2 victory.
