Brunel Division 1
Burnham-on-Sea 6, Weston-s-Mare II 0

AFTER a disappointing 2-0 at Clifton Robinsons 4ths the previous week, Burnham-on-Sea bounced back against Weston-super-Mare 2nds on Saturday.

The hosts started well and made their experience count, despite making the first half much harder than it should have been.

Amy Edmundson opened the scoring with a well-taken goal after a neat one-two with strike partner Kerry Harvey.

Becky Smith made it 2-0 shortly after, scoring her first ever goal for Burnham with a smart strike from the top of the D.

Emma Fellows was positive and sharp at right-back, driving the team forward at every opportunity, and Caroline Hunt was a dominant force in midfield.

The Blues should have at least doubled the scoreline before half-time as chances came and went, but they stuck to their task and improved their finishing in the second half.

Following a one-handed save and another block at the near post from goalkeeper Lucy Stacey to preserve the lead, Harvey got her usual brace in quick succession, having been a constant thorn in the visitors’ side with her tireless running and dribbling.

Her first came courtesy of Hunt’s selfless run, and her second after quick thinking from Tracey Dunn and Sarah Johnson to set her up.

Harvey turned provider with a lovely run and cutback for Edmundson to tap in, and Johnson capped another top performance with a delicate flick through the keeper’s legs from Edmundson’s short corner strike.

Players of the match: Kerry Harvey & Caroline Hunt

Next up for Burnham - who sit in sixth place, one point off fifth - is a trip to eighth-placed Firebrands, this Saturday (1.30pm).
