Wrington Redhill 2, Burnham Utd 1

BURNHAM United’s run of good form ended with a disappointing 2-1 defeat at lowly Wrington Redhill on Saturday.

In a first half with few chances, Joe Selway and Cameron Birch came closest to breaking the deadlock, while a fantastic save from Fraser McDiarmid at the other end kept it goalless.

With 55 minutes on the clock Ryan Stiles had a shot cleared off the line, but the home team took the lead on 69 minutes with a deflected shot which looped over McDiarmid.

Wrington doubled their lead 10 minutes later from a free-kick on the left.

Jordan Costello’s left-footed strike got the Seasiders back into the game in the dying minutes, but they could not find an equaliser.

Burnham stay second in the Division 1, six points off leaders Timsbury Athletic with three games in hand.

Their next game is at home to Minehead on February 22.

BURNHAM started strongly and were ahead within two minutes as Benny Windram broke down the right and cut the ball back for Dec Christie to fire home.

Just 10 minutes later, Fred Berry’s corner was met by Nathan Giblett with a bullet header, which found the top corner to double the hosts’ lead.

The second half started like the first, with Windram again breaking down the right only to be brought down in the penalty area.

Mike Stevens calmly slotted to the goalkeeper’s right to put the Seasiders 3-0 up.

Burnham continued to control the game and were unlucky not to add more to the scoreline.

United Reserves - sitting seventh in the Division 3 table, four points off third spot - host ninth-placed Draycott this coming Saturday (2.30pm).

Hutton A 1, Burnham Utd A 0

BURNHAM’S 3rd XI travelled to Hutton A knowing a win would see them leapfrog their hosts in the table.

The home team started on top, however, and scored early in the first half after a mazy run from the winger.

United managed to get back into the game and played some good football, but they couldn’t find an equaliser.
