SOMERSET'S Tom Banton is set to face Australia in both T20 and one-day cricket next month, after being named in the England squads for both series.

Banton is currently in action for England against Pakistan, scoring 71 off 42 balls in the first IT20 match (which was abandoned due to rain) and then 20 in the second (England winning by five wickets).

The 21-year-old lines up alongside ex-Somerset player Jos Buttler, who has also been named in both squads, but there is no place for Lewis Gregory, despite the Somerset all-rounder being selected for the first two IT20s against Pakistan.

Both series against Australia will be played behind closed doors, with the IT20s taking place on September 4, September 6 and September 8, all at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

The ODI series, hosted by Emirates Old Trafford, follows with matches played on September 11, September 13 and September 16.

As a result of this call-up, Banton will miss Somerset's Vitality Blast matches against Worcestershire Rapids (September 3, away), Birmingham Bears (September 4, home), Worcestershire Rapids (September 11, home), Gloucestershire (September 13, home) and Glamorgan (September 16, away) as well as the Bob Willis Trophy match at Worcestershire (September 6-9).

They will, however, benefit from the star power of Babar Azam, the Pakistan batsman having been made available for Somerset's last seven group games in the Blast, as well as the knockout stages if Somerset qualify, following the IT20 series against England which finishes tomorrow.

WESTERN Storm suffered their first defeat in this season's Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy 50-over competition, going down to Southern Vipers by 22 runs at the Bristol County Ground on Monday.

Half-centuries from Georgia Adams, Danni Wyatt and Charlotte Dean led the visitors to 261-7, but Heather Knight (67) and Sophie Luff (60) threatened to make light work of that in a hundred partnership for the second wicket.

The Vipers hit back, though, with Tara Norris claiming 4-45, and the Storm lost seven wickets for 31 runs in 11 overs.

The hosts tumbled from 149-1 in the 26th over to 180-8, and ultimately 239 all out inside 48 overs.

Storm skipper Luff said afterwards: "Losing those wickets in the middle phase of the innings proved the difference.

"I've not had much chance to bat with Heather [Knight] this year, but we were going really well and had got ourselves ahead of the rate.

"It all changed when I got out and, perhaps the situation got the better of one or two of the younger girls thereafter.

"We now lose Katie [George], Heather and Anya [Shrubsole] to England, so there will be an opportunity for some of our other young players to make their mark in the remaining games."

Western Storm visit the Sunrisers for their next match, on Saturday, September 5.
