West Clubs Women’s League
Brunel Division 1
Burnham-on-Sea 3, Weston-super-Mare 3
BURNHAM-ON-SEA picked up a point from their first league match of the delayed 2020/21 season, thanks to a spirited comeback in a thrilling match with their local rivals.
In a frantic first half where Weston were quicker and stronger than them, the Blues were indebted to goalkeeper Lucy Stacey for keeping them in it.
Only trailing 1-0 at half-time, the hosts displayed better communication upon the restart and soon equalised through Kerry Harvey, following some really good play involving Sarah Johnson, Hatty Rogers and Amy Edmundson.
Burnham were then stunned by two quick goals from Weston, but that only prompted them into moving up another gear.
With Emma Ballard and Nicky Glanville steadying the defence, Tracey Dunn was able to push on and support the attack, while Harvey was a thorn in Weston’s side as she dribbled past her marker time and time again.
A free hit - awarded for a foul on Harvey - was taken quickly, Dunn almost got on the end of Harvey’s cross, Ellie Bishop kept it alive and Caroline Hunt was there to convert.
The hosts continued to piled on the pressure, and Harvey got a deserved equaliser, as Becky Smith combined well with Johnson before setting up Harvey to reverse chip the ball in.
Player of the match: Kerry Harvey
Burnham visit Old Bristolians 2nds this Saturday (2pm).
