HOCKEY made its belated return for the 2020/21 season on Saturday, and Taunton Civil Service ladies launched their league campaign with an emphatic win over local rivals Minehead.
A new-look Civil Service team struggled for fluency initially, but led 1-0 at half-time thanks to Lucy Ayres, who converted Freya Williams’ wonderful long pass.
The hosts were dominant after the break, with Ayres scoring again, Abby Murray also bagging two goals - including a superb volleyed finish - and Gee Woodgate-Jones and Izzy Williams netting one apiece.
Elsewhere on the opening weekend, Taunton Vale ladies 1st XI drew 1-1 at home to Lydney, while Vale 2nds also drew 1-1, away to Sidmouth & Ottery.
