SOMERSET and Gloucestershire meet in the County Championship for the first time since 2007 tomorrow.

The West Country rivals did meet in last season’s Bob Willis Trophy, mind you, and Somerset will be hoping for a similar result this time around.

Gloucestershire were humbled in Taunton, with meagre innings of 76 and 70 in reply to the hosts’ 237 and 223-1 declared.

Centuries from George Bartlett, Tom Lammonby and Tom Abell were aided by nine- and seven-wicket hauls from Craig Overton and Josh Davey, respectively, for the home side.

Somerset come into this week’s match with confidence flowing through their veins, after their back-from-the-dead win over Middlesex at Lord’s - but should beware a Gloucestershire team coming off a fine victory of their own.

Surrey may have boasted Rory Burns, Hashim Amla, Ollie Pope, Ben Foakes and Jamie Overton in their line-up, but they were restricted to 220 and 333 in Bristol, and Graeme van Buuren’s rapid 110* helped the home side race to an eight-wicket win.

Somerset squad for Gloucestershire match: Tom Abell (c), Tom Banton, George Bartlett, Eddie Byrom, Josh Davey, Steve Davies, Marchant de Lange, Lewis Gregory, James Hildreth, Tom Lammonby, Jack Leach, Craig Overton, Roelof van der Merwe.

The match will pause between 2.50pm and 4.10pm on Saturday, to coincide with the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh, with one hour of playing time to be made up elsewhere across the four days.
