THE qualifying round for the Upton & Scott Greensomes took place at Brean Golf Club over the weekend.

Despite north-easterly winds making scoring challenging, Brian Read and Simon Prior topped the qualifiers with a score of 41 points.

They will have top seeding in the knockout phase during the rest of the summer.

Closely following were Pete Hackett and Rich Fairchild, who netted 39 points and will face Dave Glasby and Clive Goode in the semi-finals.

Glasby and Goode were part of a trio scoring 37 points.

Jon Scorrer and Nick Rich, who had the highest score in the trio, will face Read and Prior in the semi-finals.

Steve Barker and Mark Elvins were not so fortunate, missing out on the back nine on countback.

On Sunday, Mike Mullin enjoyed a stunning round in the stableford which was also the qualifying round for the National PGA Pro Am.

Despite being two clear of the field and scoring 40 points, Mullin did not progress due to an applied event handicap limit.

This left him with 34 points and out of the competition.

Runner-up Barry Fellows, with 38 points, will now progress to join club PGA professional Andrew March in the Regional Final at Enmore Park in August.

Third place went to Neil Barker who scored 36 points while Tony Oliver won a countback on 35 points to secure the fourth spot with 35.
