Brean Golf Club's 2024 Presidents Day brings yet more success for the Jones family as Paul and Isla triumph.

Steve, Eric, Paul, and Millie Jones have all tasted success at the course previously and following this year's event Paul now joins Steve as a 'double' winner of the event as he partnered his daughter Isla to victory.

The duo scored an impressive 49 points with Burnham & Berrow member Isla sealing the deal with a nett eagle at their final hole, with Paul contributing four gross birdies himself to their winning score.

The Jones partnership held a two-point advantage over last year’s runners up Steve and Gail Mason, who did the same in this year's event carding 47 points to take second.

Three pairs handed in 45-point returns and the computer was required to separate them on a countback, the best of the bunch being Rob Chard and Mel Brown who came in third.

Former Brean members Bob Pelzer and George Havercroft returned to take part and were the leading visiting pair on 42.

Sunday's Super Series Stableford enjoyed a glorious day of weather as the sun shone on the players and Dan Hollyhead produced a stunning back nine score to take the win.

He carded a superb 46 points which was the only score to exceed 40 on the day and included no less than 30 of those points coming on the back nine holes.

His winning margin was a sizeable seven points in Division Two with his nearest challenger being his father Brian with 39. Kevin Davies was third on 35.

In Division One, two players had to be separated by a countback for top spot. Matt Haskins had the better back nine score to edge out Mike Hurman for the win with Carl Ashley finishing third on 36.

The second round of the Seniors Captains Cup also became the first of the three-round series on Thursday after rain washed out the opening round last month.

Silverware is awarded to the player who posts the best two nett Medal scores over the three rounds and Mats Mattsson posted an impressive nett 60 to put himself in pole position.

This superb effort from the Swede gives him a 5-stroke cushion over the defending champion Nigel Ellis as they head into round two in a couple of weeks.
