The Semi Final of the Somerset Bowl was played at Isle of Wedmore on Sunday afternoon and the Brean team led by Club Captain Dan Broom took on Cannington for a place in the Final.
The first two points of the afternoon went the way of Cannington but then the fightback began with Kevin White and Neil Barker securing Brean's first point of the day.
Leighton Jenkins and Eamonn Wynne were 2 down with three to play but brilliantly rescued victory from the jaws of defeat on the final green and when the Broom cousins Dan and Tom won 2&1 it was Brean who will progress to the Final by a 3-2 scoreline.
Back at Brean, Alan Eboe and Kevin Griffiths won their second Betterball event of the Super Series season on Sunday as they topped the scorecharts with 46 points.
It was only after a countback that they achieved this position as Brian and Kevin Hollyhead also posted 46 points as well.
The back nine of Eboe and Griffiths gave them the advantage over the father and son duo as well as the maximum Super Series points.
Third place just one point behind was occupied by Steve Barker and Nigel Ellis.
The previous day Seniors Captain Tim Amy posted the best score of the day in Saturday's August Stableford. His return of 42 points was one clear of Roy Fletcher and secured him the top spot in Division Three.
Jimmy Quigley beat Tony Osborne for third after both players scored 39. Another countback decided the Second Division as Ian Rogers edged out Simon Baunton on countback after both totalled 38 points apiece.
Rogers had the better back nine of the pair with Trevor Pitt claiming third on 37 points. No player in Division One reached the 36 points mark but three competitors all handed in cards of 35. The three way countback went the way of Craig Wheelaghan with Leighton Jenkins placing second and Neil Barker settling for third.
Seniors Chairman Mike Short did the bulk of the organising of the annual Seniors Away Day and it turned out he did the bulk of the winning too! He arranged for 40 golfers from Brean to venture across Somerset to Long Sutton to tackle their course and compete for the RW Taylor Shield which Short duly secured with a superb score of 41 pts.
This left him one clear of a pair of 40 point scorecards and Leighton Jenkins had the better back nine of the duo to relegate Graham Exton into third spot.
Lyn Bird scored an impressive 38 points to take the prize for the leading Ladies score. A blind pairs draw is also run alongside the event and after the post round meal Seniors Captain was joined by Club Captain Dan Broom to draw the cards out.
Early leaders on 73 were Dave Mann & Trevor Pitt alongside Graham Exton & Martyn Brown. With round half the cards drawn Tracy Spencer and Leighton Jenkins were paired up to take the lead on 77 and only one combination remained from the final 4 cards that could beat this. The scores of Short and Captain Broom followed each other out of the bag to win by a single point from Spencer/Jenkins with Exton/Brown winning the countback for third. A good day was had by all and thanks to Mike Short, Seniors Captain Tim Amy and his Captain Elect Tony Oliver for arranging the day and ensuring it ran smoothly.
