Regional 2 Tribute South West: Wellington RFC 10 Winscombe 52

Winscombe Rugby Club's first XV secured a dominant victory over Wellington, moving them to second in the league.

The team travelled to Wellington and continued their impressive form with another bonus-point win.

Despite a challenging season so far, Wellington made a strong start and opened the scoring with a try in the corner following some robust play down the right.

However, Winscombe's wing Will Pearce quickly levelled the scores with a forceful run down the left touchline.

After a period of deadlock, the visitors found their rhythm, scoring two more converted first-half tries through scrum-half Lewis Podpadec and fullback Ollie Walrond, giving Winscombe a 19-5 lead at half-time.

The second half saw Wellington apply pressure on Winscombe's five-metre line, leading to a series of penalties that resulted in yellow cards for Winscombe's hooker Richard Priddice and centre Jermaine Jones.

With their team reduced to 13 men, Winscombe displayed resilience in defence but eventually conceded a try in the corner.

However, this score seemed to ignite Winscombe, who then took firm control of the match, scoring five unanswered tries.

Winscombe's characteristic strong forward play allowed their backs more freedom with the ball.

Fly-half Kieran Hill and right-wing Ru Schofield both scored well-executed tries before Pearce capped off the match with a hat-trick of tries in the left corner.

All of these were impressively converted by centre Sam Dearsley from wide out.

The bonus point from this match sees Winscombe move to second place in the Regional 2 Tribute South West league.

Looking ahead, they will face Teignmouth at Longfield in their next game.

This victory is the latest in a series of strong performances from Winscombe, as they aim to maintain their position at second in the table.
