A Burnham golfer has been named in England Golf's national men's squad for 2026/27.

Freddie Turnell, of Burnham & Berrow Golf Club, has been named in the 13-strong squad which boasts players based in the UK and the United States.

Turnell has had a successful year so far, having won the 2026 Hoosier Collegiate Invitational in 2026 and reached the quarter-finals of the 2026 South of Ireland Open.

He also helped England win the 2025 Women's and Men's Home Internationals and won The Goodwin in the United States.

Turnell was also successful in the 2024 Hampshire Trophy and Berkshire Trophy.

Its UK-based squad will comprise six individuals with new addition Jenson Bull and Harley Smith returning to the set-up, while the US-based squad includes seven players – with Ed Featherstone being included for the first time.

The National Men's Squad will receive comprehensive coaching, training support, and competitive guidance, as they look to take the next steps in their careers and progress through the amateur ranks.

England Golf Men's Performance Manager, Ben Gorvett, said: “The standard of players in our squads for the 2026/27 season is extremely high, and the competition for places is as strong as ever.

The players we have selected have shown they can compete at the highest level, including while representing England and Great Britain & Ireland.

“They also know there are plenty of talented golfers coming through who are eager to earn their place in the squad and push for selection in future teams.

That competition will be a real driving force throughout the winter and will help maintain the high standards and work ethic we expect from the group.

“To have this strength in depth, alongside a number of players progressing into the professional ranks, demonstrates the strength of our pathway from county through to regional and national level.

Our coaching team is looking forward to a productive winter of hard work with the squads, and we wish all of our players who have recently turned professional every success in the next chapter of their careers.”
