CHARD looked dangerous in the early exchanges but were thwarted by strong Burnham defence.
The first score was a fine individual try from Graham Somerhay.
Burnham’s backs had moved the ball wide out on the right and when it was grounded, Somerhay scooped it up and ran in for the score; Dave Harris converted.
Will Grant then added a copycat second, before Tom Steven scored a fine opportunist third, and then Mike Edwards, playing a stormer at scrum-half, added the fourth.
Harris converted three of the four tries and a penalty, but Chard responded with two tries of their own to trail 29-14 at halftime.
Sadly, Burnham approached the second half as if the job was already done, and Chard took advantage.
Playing with extra aggression, Chard pulled another try back, and then a penalty.
Burnham made some substitutions to try and stop the rot, but Chard drew level after spending a long time camped in the visitors’ 22.
Chard tried to force the winner but Burnham at least held on for a draw, although there are many lessons to learn from this game of two halves.
