BURNHAM-ON-SEA and Highbridge Town Council has announced its Civic Award recipients for 2022. 

The awards recognise individuals who have demonstrated outstanding service to the community, made a significant contribution to public life, and shown dedication to helping residents in Burnham and Highbridge.

Councillor Mike Facey, the mayor of Burnham and Highbridge, will host a Civic Awards event on Friday, March 4 at The Princess Theatre in Burnham.

He said: “It’s my greatest pleasure to invite the recipients of the 2022 civic awards, along with the recipients of the 2021 awards, to attend an evening of celebration and light entertainment held in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the community.”

Six people from across four nominations have been selected to recieve Civic Awards at this year's event.

Maxine Bashford has been recognised by the council for her 12 years of service at the Trussell Trust's Highbridge Area Foodbank, particularly for her work to help people in need during the pandemic.

Ruth and John Crosby will receive an award for their involvement with the Royal British Legion, with special recognition for Ruth’s leadership and community spirit in coordinating the local poppy appeal for six years.

Jacob and Toby Beard will also be awarded for their work with the 1st Burnham Scout Group, where they give young people the opportunity to try new skills and teach kindness, teamwork, charity, respect, and leadership skills.

Finally, Jeff Jackson will be recognised for his loyalty and dedication to the air cadets and 290 Detached Flight Squadron over nine years to help cadets receive a varied, interesting, and dynamic  training programme.

The event at The Princess Theatre will be invitee-only.
