A 20MPH speed limit will be introduced on a busy road in Burnham-on-Sea to protect schoolchildren.

The decision was made at a recent meeting between Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge Town Council and Somerset Council.

Locals first flagged the potential danger on Love Lane - which runs past St Andrew's C Of E Junior School - last year, as it is the only road in the area with a school on it which doesn't have a 20mph limit.

Vehicles coming in and out of town use the road frequently, as well as ambulances leaving the station on the road at high speeds in response to emergencies.

It has now been confirmed that the road will be adorned with several 20mph speed limit signs.

The '20mph when lights show' sign and associated unit from St Andrews Road will be moved to Love Lane, nearer the local primary school.

A spokesperson for Somerset Council said: "Following discussions with the Town Council, a decision was taken to relocate the dual flash unit and 20 when lights show sign, from St Andrews Road to Love Lane."
